To all the children not born yet, who we have failed,
I have watched as politicians put greed and growth above us, above future generation, above the planet, above everything.
I have watched as they allow corporations to suck the planet dry, ignore the warnings and fail to meet or enact any real change. They put money and profit above all.
They put themselves above all, even above their own children and grandchildren and the children not born yet. The climate crisis has reached "the moment”, we are now close to the point of catastrophe and yet do we see our leader's rally. We have ignored the warnings for over a decade under Tory leadership.
I have shouted, I have voted, I have protested, I have done all I can to change and reduce my impact on the world but compared to corporations and countries my impact is miniscule. I have felt powerless, I have failed you, as we have let them fail you.
There can be no more hiding, and no more denying. Global heating is supercharging extreme weather at an astonishing speed, extreme weather increases across the planet. As Billions of tons of CO2 are released into the atmosphere every year as a result of coal, oil, and gas production.
Human activity is producing greenhouse gas emissions at a record high, with no signs of slowing down and yet our leaders don't act. They throw our money at the oil and gas companies and worship at the altar of greed.
The energy companies have had the biggest ever quarterly profits and paid zero windfall tax. And yet our government scaled back their promise to protect us and tried to windfall tax green energy while ignoring the obscene profits of oil and gas companies.
If the Tories had not blocked progress on renewables and insulation over the last decade, Britain would already be generating more clean energy than the amount provided by the fuels imported from Russia.
This crisis can be laid at the feet of this government, our leaders as 12 years of inaction has a price. History will look back on them unkindly and us too. As we sat and did nothing, we gave them the power; we watched as they sat atop their piles of gold and did nothing.
