Louise Sargent's Letter

My Grandchildren,

I don't know if I will ever meet you, you see your parents haven't yet met.

Firstly I want to apologise for everything that has gone before. I can't even remember the day when everything started to change. It all seemed to happen under stealth and was suddenly the normality. It frightens me to think of how easy it all was. If only it were that simple to put everything right. Sadly I know we don't have the time to be cautious with our plans.

I want you to know that I've tried my upmost to do my bit. I can't have that selfish attitude like some others seem to possess, who have utter disregard for what the future holds. I on the other hand am so grateful for what we have and I want that feeling to continue down the generations, I want them all to experience the the wonders that we have.

I don't wish for your future to be ruled by horrendous weather, where you worry for your family and home. My work now is for a conservation charity who have clear aims for climate action and I'm hoping that every step we have taken now has made a difference for you and that the climate changes if not in remission are at a halt. I deeply hope that measures being done by some aren't undone by others.

My biggest wish is that those in power finally recognise the issues we are facing and stop kowtowing to big industry, stop lining their pockets and stop with the puppeteering. I hope they take action and taxation to put the money where it is going to be wholesome and nurturing for the planet, in an effort to right those wrongs.

I hope that you continue the work I've started, don't ease up. Be proud and loud, as the planet doesn't have it's own voice, it's relying on you. That way your children, their children and their children's children will see and live in a better world.

Take care
With much love
Gran
