To all humankind,

DROUGHT

We’ve had weeks and weeks without much rain.
When will the heavens open again?
The Government’s declared a drought,
ruling use of hosepipes out.

We now expect an early Fall
with Autumn colours to enthral.
We may also get a second “Spring”.
Who’s ever heard of such a thing?

Occasionally we get a storm,
with short intensity “gi-norm”.
But all this does is cause a flood
plus some very short-lived mud.

So river levels stay too low,
much the same where e’er you go.
Fish are struggling, birds, mammals too.
The question posed: what is to do?

We need lots of steady rain,
so earth will water well retain.
Rivers then would better flow.
Improvement then should slowly show.

The problem’s cause is humankind,
more every year, that is the bind.
More energy, more CO2.
We’re the problem. It’s so true!

There’s little time these things to fix
to get a greener energy mix.
Also to consume much less
and pollution fast address.

Unless the world a plan enacts,
to slow the climate changing facts,
famine, drought and excess heat
will be the norm, I will repeat.
